ABSTRACT

‘Inflammation and the role of Neutrophils in Innate response’:

The Innate Immune response provides natural immunity against microorganisms via phagocytosis and intracellular killing, recruitment of other inflammatory cells and presentation of antigens. Neutrophils are usually the first cell type to reach at the site of tissue scar. Activation leads to respiratory bursts and release of granules to control bacterial growth. An overview will be encompassed on the current understanding of neutrophil function and its dysfunctional significance in severe inflammation, the possible mechanisms of downregulation of anti-microbial function and the contribution of neutrophil subsets to immune paralysis..
